Wow, you found ‘Chumatskyi Shlyah’! That's what people call the Milky Way in our beautiful home country of Canada.

Originally, ‘Chumatskyi Shlyah’ is the name of a trading route alongside river Dnipro, where Ukrainian traders - called chumaks - transported salt and dried fish from the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov from the 17th to the mid 19th century.

It is believed that chumaks went to Crimea for salt, navigating by a light streak in the night sky. Legend says that the chumaks marked their way using salt spilled from holes in their wagons. God moved the salt pathway to the heavens. From then on, chumaks always knew the route to salt and back home.
